Equipment

  • Paper towel

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
  • 2 packages of cream cheese softened
  • 3/4 cup of creamy mayonnaise
  • 1 garlic clove finely minced or crushed
  • 2 cans of clams drained and finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • A pinch of ground cayenne or a few dashes of hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. It’s helpful to have everything neatly laid out. Soften the cream cheese a bit, if it isn’t at room temperature, because it makes blending so much easier. Drain the clams and pat them dry with a paper towel to get rid of excess liquid.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and mayonnaise. Use an electric mixer for a smooth blend, or go traditional and use a sturdy spatula. Either way, mix until you get a creamy and light texture.
  • Next, stir in the minced garlic and lemon juice. Then, it’s time for the fun part! Add in the finely chopped clams. If you like a chunkier dip, leave some clam pieces intact for a delightful bite.
  • Sprinkle the sea salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne into the mixture. Each addition adds its character and transforms your dip from ordinary to extraordinary. Taste, and adjust the seasoning as per your preference.
  • You’re trying to achieve a spreadable yet dippable consistency. If it feels too thick, a splash of lemon juice or a little more mayonnaise can help loosen it up.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This step allows the flavors to meld nicely. When you’re ready to serve, sprinkle fresh parsley on top for a lovely presentation.

Notes

  • Cream Cheese: This component is crucial for the dip's creamy texture. Make sure to soften it well for easy mixing.
  • Mayonnaise: Choose the best quality mayonnaise. It offers richness and body, balancing the dip perfectly.
  • Clams: You can use canned clams like I do for convenience, but fresh clams can elevate the flavor dramatically if you have the time and resources.
  • Garlic: Freshly minced garlic gives a more vibrant aroma compared to powdered. Adjust to your taste if you're a garlic lover!
  • Lemon Juice: This ingredient brightens the dip. Fresh lemon juice is always preferred over bottled.
  • Spices: Smoked paprika and cayenne bring life to the flavor. Adjust based on how much heat you enjoy.
