- 1 15 oz can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup chickpea liquid or cold water
- 3 tablespoons creamy tahini paste
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice about 1 lemon
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup loosely packed cilantro leaves
- 2 –3 medium jalapeños deseeded or kept whole for desired heat
- 3 cloves fresh garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 –1 teaspoon sea salt adjust to taste
- 1/8 –1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
Start by gathering all of your ingredients. This simple task makes the following steps much smoother.
In a food processor, add the drained chickpeas. Pulse them a few times until they are roughly broken down. This step ensures a smoother final product.
Next, add in the tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, cilantro, cumin, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth.
If the mixture seems too thick, don’t hesitate to add chickpea liquid or cold water bit by bit until you achieve your desired consistency.
Now, it’s time to add the jalapeños. Depending on your spice preference, you can include them partially or entirely. Pulse again until combined.
Taste your hummus. Feel free to add more salt, lemon juice, or jalapeños to suit your palate.
Transfer your flavorful hummus into a serving bowl. You can drizzle a bit of olive oil on top and garnish with additional cilantro if you’d like.
